Home Goals 2012

Last year I didn’t make any home goals.  I figured I’d just do what I could when I could.  Well, we did a lot, but I still think we could have made much more progress if we would’ve had a clear set of defined goals!

So this year, I’m making some goals gosh darn it!

I have a lot of things I would like to do around here so let’s take a look, shall we?

dining room

stenciled wall

Goals for Dining Room:

  • Add faux wainscoting under chair rail
  • Find or sew slipcovers for zebra chairs
  • Make a burlap pendant light to replace fixture
  • Remove or find new cushions for chairs
  • Figure out wall art

family room

family room

Goals for Family Room:

  • Make new curtains that aren’t high-waters!  This has been driving me crazy for ages!
  • Disguise dog cage a little better or find it a new home.  We love having the dogs in the family room with us (and they love it too), but the cage is such an eye sore.  I need to figure something out.
  • Change out the Christmas art on the canvas board.
  • Find new end tables since we sold our old ones on Craigslist last week.

play room

kids play room

Ummm….this room is a hot mess and I have some big plans for it!  I’m just keepin’ it real with these pictures, people!  I’m actually ok with this room being a hot mess because it’s Emily’s space to play and be creative.

Goals for Play Room:

  • Paint.  I’m probably going to use the stencil color from the dining room since they are adjoining and wide open to each other.
  • Hang rain gutters for book shelves.  We’ve already purchased the gutter, we just need to cut it and hang it.
  • Get a small table and chairs for an art station.  I’m thinking this option from IKEA.  But, I would like to paint the table and chairs white and paint the top with chalkboard paint.

  • I want to take that shelf out of the corner and possibly make that the “art corner”.  That is where I’d put the table above and come up with a creative way to display her artwork in that corner.
  • I also want to get rid of the red couch.  I would like to replace it with 2 little lounge chairs.  These are some good options:

  • I’d also like to add some fun stripes to the curtains in here as well!

I have had some big plans for this room.  I was super stoked about painting some pretty gray stripes on these walls until I looked at these pictures just now and realized those darn boxes are a little bit of a problem.  Hhmm…..let’s see how creative I can get because I really want those stripes!!

Goals For The Laundry Room:

  • Paint stripes (or just paint the walls plain if the stripes won’t work)
  • Add some storage with cabinets above washer & dryer
  • Slide washer and dryer down closer to doorway
  • Build a make-shift folding table against the far wall
  • Add shelving and cute baskets for gift wrapping supplies
  • Add clear containers and jars for laundry detergent, etc.
  • Get it to look as much like Jen’s laundry room as humanly possible.

This room makes me want to vom in my mouth a little bit.  We literally NEVER use it (guests very rarely stay with us and when they do, we give them our bedroom since the guest room is adjacent to Emily’s room).  I hate, hate, hate this room.

Goals For The Guest Room:

  • Get new bedding.  Literally, anything but this brown and blue will do!!  Bleh.  I’m looking for light and bright in this room!
  • Change out artwork.
  • Find a different place for the ridiculously large highboy.  This room is FAR too small for a huge highboy and a huge desk.  And we need our desk.  So it’s stayin’.  Not really sure what to do with the highboy.
  • Hang new curtains.
  • Maybe paint.  I really don’t like painting at all so painting this room will be one of those things that happens if I have time and if I get really bored.

master

IMG_7299

Do I even need to say anything??  This room is such a disaster.  Again, just keeping it real!  There is so much I want to do in here.

Goals for the Master Bedroom:

  • Make it more of a relaxing, peaceful place (this might require actually folding the laundry and putting it away).
  • Possibly close off that window to the right of the bed.  I’ve always hated this window because it’s placement makes zero sense to me.  It’s a random window on a random wall and I’m not a fan.  I was totally justified this morning when I read that Chris from Just A Girl is having the same problem in her bedroom!  Random window with no purpose = hate!  Smile  If I can’t get rid of the window, then this is my inspiration photo:

This is a wall almost just like ours.  Random one window.  I love the wall color and the bed too.  This is what I’m aiming for!  So to achieve this I need to:

  • paint
  • get more pillows
  • find artwork/mirror for over bed
  • DIY a bed/headboard
  • redo the nightstands so they’re not so matchy matchy
  • find a huge fabulous mirror to hang over the dresser instead of the mirror that came with the dresser

And that’s about it!  Considering these are my home goals for 2012, I have a whole entire year to get this stuff done!!  Now if I can teach my impatient self to pace these projects out and not start too many things at once, we’ll be good to go!

I can’t wait to share my progress with you!  I’m so glad I made these goals this year and that I have shared them with you.  This way I can actually be held accountable!

Have you set any home goals for 2012?

Thanks for stopping by!  You’re wonderful!

Christmas Décor Galore

I am getting so excited about Christmas!!  I can’t wait to wrap everyone’s gifts in pretty packaging, create handmade gifts for neighbors and friends, spend time with family, and see my little girl’s eyes light up on Christmas morning!

I have been thinking a lot about what direction I want to go in for Christmas décor this year.  I am so torn because there are so many cute color combinations!  But, I think I have decided on a “neutral” Christmas using ivories, golds, silvers, and of course…..burlap!

So, to prepare for my “neutral” Christmas décor this year, I have turned to none other than my bestie, Pinterest!  Here are some of my favorite finds………

I love this neutral tree!  I will definitely have a burlap garland on my tree though!

I love, love, love this tree!  This is exactly what I’m going for!

Even though we ordered personalized stockings from PB last year, I am thinking about making some stockings like this!  I just love them!

This pillow is just to die for!  So cute, but can easily be made with some drop cloth and a Goodwill sweater!

I just love this simple décor!  Seems so easy!  I would love this on my mantle or buffet table!

I also love this simple burlap tree!  This would also look great on the mantle or in a grouping as a centerpiece!

This post has officially made me realize that I need to go buy more burlap and get busy!!  ‘Tis the season!  The best season ever!

So what are your décor plans for Christmas this year?  I’d love to hear your ideas!

Monogrammed Pumpkin {“Pin”spiration}

My “Fall and Halloween” board on Pinterest is filled to the brim with so many gorgeous and inspiring ideas!  Although I would LOVE to duplicate them all, I don’t have the time, money, and quite frankly….the motivation!  I need quick and easy these days {with a grumpy and teething 10 month old and all}.
I have seen several cute pumpkin makeovers on Pinterest!  Take a look at these beauties:

I love ‘em all!  So I wanted to make my own!  I really love the simplicity and stylishness of the nailhead pumpkins!  And I love monograms!
So I made a monogrammed nailhead pumpkin!

IMG_6245

I got the pumpkin at Walmart for $4.  It’s fake and kinda foamy-ish {yeah, I make up my own words.  It’s my blog.  I can do that!}.  I also got the pack of nail heads there for 88 cents.  I already had the spray paint on hand.

The pumpkin started out orange {obviously}.  I don’t have a before picture.  Horrible blogger.  Sorry.

I taped off the stem and took it outside and spray painted it using Krylon’s Satin Nickel.  I then printed a large W {for our last name} off the computer.  I held it up on the pumpkin where I wanted it and started inserting the nail heads.

IMG_6244

My original idea was to put all the nail heads in, then just rip the paper off {thinking that the nail heads would stay in place}.  Well, that didn’t happen.  The nail heads popped out.  That was ok though.  I just put them right back in.  It was easy since the holes were already marked in the pumpkin.

I love it!  Simple, quick, cute, elegant.  I love that it isn’t bright orange and doesn’t scream PUMPKIN & FALL {although there is nothing wrong with that and I have some plans for some orange pumpkins}!

This took me all of about 15 minutes!  Even better!

Have you found any Fall and/or Halloween inspiration on Pinterest?  Are you just “pinning” or are you going to actually tackle some of those projects?

Have a great Friday!

Are You Ready For Some Football??

Ummm…..the answer is a resounding YES in this household!  We are so stoked for football season.  We have season tickets again for our beloved Gators!  Go Gators!!!!

So, to get in the football spirit, I thought I would add a few things to our front porch to be sure and let allllll the neighbors know that we love our Gators!

I was inspired by this wreath that Stacy at She’s Kinda Crafty made.  She is awesome! {I mean, she has to be right?  She’s a fellow Gator!}

Isn’t it GORGEOUS!  I fell in love and knew I had to make one!

So off to Hobby Lobby I went with my coupon in hand.  Lucky for me the ribbon was 50% off so I scored a ton for quite a steal!

I won’t give a tutorial because as I found, there’s about a million of them out there for ribbon wreaths (here’s a good one from Jen @ Tatertots & Jello).

So with Stacy’s wreath in mind, I got to work!  A couple hours and a burnt thumb later, here’s my finished product:

Eeepp!  I love it.  All that orange & blue just makes me so giddy.  About the only thing I did differently from Stacy was use wooden letters instead of paper.  I just used some spray adhesive and blue glitter on them.  I secured them to the wreath with my glue gun.  Easy peasy!

* * * * *

So, are you big football fanatics in your house?  Is your husband in 20,000 different fantasy football leagues like mine?  Spill it!

Have a great weekend!

A Fun Spin on Wainscoting {Just had to share!}

Hey guys!  I was doing my morning blog reading this morning and came across Kate’s BOTB (Best of the Blogosphere) post.  The very first find that was featured caught my eye!

Check out that neat wainscoting!!  I clicked on the link to find out more!

Turns out, this photo comes from Tracey @ Soul Style.  She actually used a company called Acurio Latticeworks for that gorgeous wainscoting.  She worked with one of their people and sent them what she had in mind for her design.  They came up with a design, she approved, and they did all the dirty work!  It showed up at her door already cut and all she had to do was place it on her wall!

How cool is that!?!  And the best part is, this option was way cheaper than what she had priced out in MDF!  Score!

She also had them cut more in a different pattern for window casings.  Check it out:

How fun is that?

I love this unique spin on wainscoting so much I just had to share!  Now my wheels are spinning!  I want some!!  Hehe.

What do you think?  Do you like this fun spin on wainscoting or do you like the more traditional look?

Thanks for stopping by!

Pinterest Challenge

So by now you all know about my addiction to Pinterest.  So addicting!

But what I realized is that I pin, pin, pin all day long and never actually put any of that inspiration to use.

Enter the Summer Pinterest Challenge.

The geniuses Katie Bower, Sherry Petersik, Emily Henderson, and Lana came up with a Pinterest challenge!

They challenged themselves to take something from Pinterest that they were inspired by and create!  Not only did they challenge themselves, but they challenged their readers too.

Where do I sign??

I was so excited because this was exactly the proverbial fire that I needed lit under my tail.

So, I went to my “Make It Happen DIY Style” board and found something there that I had pinned that I wanted to create.

I decided on these 2:

I loved that they both used canvas!  I also loved that the other materials needed for the projects were CHEAP and/or FREE!!

The project on the left was so simple.  I purchased 4 8x10 canvases from Hobby Lobby and packs of wooden letters.  I decided on the words love, hope, peace, and joy.  This art would be going in our master bedroom so I thought those words were fitting.  I got home and whipped out my trusty hot glue gun and glued the letters to my canvases.  The next morning, I took them out in the garage and spray painted them Krylon’s ivory paint.  I love how they turned out!

IMG_5987

IMG_6000

They go perfectly above our dresser in our bedroom!  And the ivory color pops off the mocha walls!

The next project was so simple.  Can you believe this art {the picture on the right above} was created from toilet paper rolls!?!  Say whaaaa?

Oh yes ma’am.  That’s what I’m talking about.  We go through toilet paper like Emily goes through diapers so I knew this project would be perfect {besides the fact that my wonderful hubby threw out my hoarded stash of TP rolls that were in a Publix bag in the garage.  And yes, I did make him dig through the trash can to get them out}.

All I needed was a large canvas that I scored from Hobby Lobby {seriously, what did I ever do without this store???}.

I took my TP rolls out to the garage and sprayed them with a cream color.  I wanted there to be a little contrast against the white canvas.  Then, I simply cut the TP rolls into strips and followed the pattern from my {pin}spiration piece.  Here’s how it turned out:

IMG_5990

IMG_5991

I love it!  It’s the first thing you see when you walk in our bedroom and it was just what that space needed!

So that’s it folks.  Have you made anything that inspired you from Pinterest?
