DIY Quatrefoil Wood Tray

Hi friends!
Happy Hump Day!
Yesterday I shared with you my organized family command center!  I’m proud to report it still looks like that!  Haha.  That’s saying something for us!
You might have noticed the cute little tray that is holding the pen cup and “mail box”.

It’s a super cute little addition to our newly organized space!

It started out as a plain little $3 wooden tray from Hobby Lobby.

I gave it a few light coats of Krylon’s Pebble spray paint.  Then, I opened up my Silhouette software and used the “geometric background (lg)” pattern to cut my white vinyl.

I weeded my vinyl (the absolute WORST part of vinyl projects) and used the negative space of the vinyl so it would look like my tray was stenciled.  I used transfer paper to transfer my vinyl to my tray.  Note: vinyl doesn’t like to stick to spray paint that well.  Boo!  Try acrylic next time.

Here’s what I ended up with:

Yay!  I love it!  Super simple (I’m not a fan of complicated).  Super quick (seriously….nap time only lasts so long).  And super cheap (well….because I’m just a cheap-o).
So there ya have it!  Now…..go forth and make a cutesy tray!

Office Nook Spruce Up

I was browsing the dollar aisle at Michael's the other day and hiding on the very bottom shelf I found a roll of printed vinyl.  It was called "shabby chic vinyl roll" or something like that.  They had a few different designs.  I snagged a roll for $3 and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.

You see, we have an office nook of sorts in our breakfast nook.  It really is a great space and I'm constantly working on it to make it feel like a part of the house and not too "officey" since it is in the heart of our home.  It has all white cabinets and a little nook is cut out in the top cabinets for.....I don't really know what.  It's not even tall enough for magazine file holder thing-a-ma-bobs or anything.  So I've tried to decorate it with a few items to, again, make it feel more "homey" and less "officey".  But I thought this little niche in the cabinets needed something extra.  Enter "shabby chic vinyl roll".

I simply measured the niche and cut my vinyl to those measurements with a good 'ole pair of scissors.  I know I took before pictures but they have disappeared.  Poof.  Gone.  No clue what happened to them.  So just imagine this little nook being plain jane white.

Here's the after:

Much better!  It gives it just that right amount of color without being overpowering.  Love it.  So quick and simple.   And CHEAP at only $3.  Score!

Now I’m off to run errands and then clean for the Super Bowl party on Sunday!  Yikes!

Home Overload

Ok, so I have a confession to make.  Yesterday I wasn't feeling great so I thought it would be a fabulous idea to sit on the computer for the entire day (minus the hour long trip to Marshall's & Target).  I felt like a drug addict yesterday.  I absolutely could not stop looking at a couple of blogs I found.  One would think I was looking at baby blogs and different fabulous baby things online.  Oh no.  That was not the case.....at all!

I was stuck on this blog:

Oh my gosh!!!  I literally spent ALL day on those cool kids' blogs!  It was like a trainwreck.  I just couldn't take my eyes off of them!  So, needless to say.....I got inspired.  I am not nearly as creative or resourceful or motivated as those people are but I got myself off to a nice little start.

I started last night by wanting to do an "overhaul" of sorts on the office area in the eat-in kitchen (thanks to the inspiration at IHeartOrganizing!).  I haven't been satisfied with it since we've moved in.  I want it to be a useful area, but not cluttered and junky since it is in a common area in the house.  So, I took a little bit of inspiration from my fellow bloggers and this is what I came up with:

Before (actually in mid clean up):

I love the new little mail caddy.  I took that inspiration from one of the blogs.  I also decided to move the printer back down because, well.....I need it!  It was upstairs in the bedroom and it just wasn't functional there.  I also added a calendar which we have been needing!  Scott and I are always on the go and we have lots of places to be so keeping it all in check on the calendar will be nice.  I also am really digging the little corner with the lamp.  It has a picture of Baby Waller in the frame and that hydrangea came straight out of my backyard!  Super!

If you have a minute, I highly suggest you take a look at the blogs I mentioned above!  They are pretty fantastic and I'm sure you'll find some great ideas too!

I'm off to be domestic now.  Lasagna is on the menu tonight!
